MEDIA RELEASE: FOOTPRINT EXPANSION

Rural Fibre Co has announced 13 more towns on its proposed network map for laying optic fibre throughout Gippsland.

The company, which is based in Morwell, had previously announced Hazelwood North as its first target when it began laying ducts in April.

New towns on the network map include Churchilll, Cowwar, Glengarry, Hazelwood South, Longford, Morwell North, Rosedale, Toongabbie, Traralgon East, Traralgon North, Traralgon West, Tyers and Yinnar.

Rural Fibre Co (RFC) is owned and managed by Phillip Britt, co-founder of Aussie Broadband and Latrobe Valley resident.

RFC’s focus is on building reliable fibre connections to under-served rural and regional areas as part of Phil’s strong belief in the region and its potential.

“We’re not sure that RFC will become a profitable enterprise, but for the greater good of the Gippsland community, we believe this investment in fibre connectivity is essential,” he said.

Phil said that work is progressing ahead of schedule on the Hazelwood North backbone rollout, and that the team and equipment is ramping up to meet demand.

The company expects to start connecting customers late in 2025 before moving on to other towns on its network map.

“We encourage anyone in those towns to enter their address on our website and check whether they will be able to connect to our network,” he said.   “If they put in an expression of interest, we’ll let them know when the fibre rollout is coming to them.”

Residents and businesses will be able to connect through partner Retail Service Providers, who are yet to be announced.
