MEDIA RELEASE: RURAL FIBRE CO HITS DOUBLE MILESTONE

Rural Fibre Co hits double milestone

Rural Fibre Co, the wholesale fibre provider led by Aussie Broadband founder Phillip Britt, has announced two major milestones.

The Rural Fibre Co (RFC) business was established early in 2025 to pursue a vision of bringing broadband fibre to under-served rural and regional areas of Gippsland.  It is a  community orientated pursuit and may never turn a profit.

Its first target is the community of Hazelwood North, and the business announced a major milestone this week with the full connection of underground duct from Traralgon to Hazelwood North – a total of more than 15 kms.

RFC will connect with the wider world through the Traralgon exchange, where it already has network gear in place.

Work will now begin to lay duct through the streets and roads of Hazelwood North, with the first customer connections on schedule for late 2025.

In a separate milestone announcement, the company has also begun hauling its first high speed fibre through duct.

“Customers can expect to see our fibre team out and about with spools of blue fibre, hauling through our duct network to create Hazelwood North’s first fibre connection,” said Phil.

“Both these milestones are really exciting steps for the Rural Fibre Co team, and a big leap in seeing this network come to life.

“We’ve come a long way since the idea of RFC first came up last October.”

Phil said the business is focused on employing locals for all aspects of its work, including laying duct, laying fibre, reinstatement of worksites, software development, home installations, customer service and more.

“This is really a business by Gippslanders, for Gippslanders,” he said.  “We want Gippsland to be at the forefront of connectivity rather than on the backburner.  This is an investment in our region and our community.”
